Light painting photographer Tim Gamble is known for mind-blowing, surreal photos. However, despite his work being created entirely or almost entirely in-camera, 500px recently deleted his account for “posting non-photographic content.” It was done without any prior warning, without the possibility of recovering his account. We chatted with Tim to learn what happened, and he shared some details about the whole situation with DIYP.

So far, most of the lenses announced or expected for the Nikon Z and Canon RF mount systems have been quite pricey. Meike, a company famous for making low budget camera grips for DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, sees things a little differently, though. The company has now announced that their 50mm f/1.7 manual focus lens is coming for Nikon Z and Canon RF mount cameras.
It’s interesting how things evolve. Nikon has traditionally made lenses that you can adapt to pretty much any other system (to varying degrees of compatibility), due to the huge flange distance of the F mount. That means with other camera systems like Canon & Sony, video shooters could use those wonderful Nikon lenses of old.
Now, it looks like the tables have turned and they’ve become the company with the body that can adapt to lenses from many other systems. Including, judging from this super slim adapter, Sony E mount lenses. And it passes full electronics and autofocus to the Nikon Z bodies, too.
It feels like every year or to, my camera bags get heavier and heavier, even though the total amount of kit I carry hasn’t really changed. It just gets replaced by newer stuff. And despite the push towards mirrorless, cameras seem to be getting heavier, too. Or are they? Apparently not. It’s no the cameras that are getting heavier, but the lenses we attach to them.
The folks over at Photography Life just did a study of the weights of 733 lenses released since the year 2,000 to see how they all measure up. And their results show that lenses are most certainly heavier than they used to be.
A Bloomberg report says that the world’s largest maker of drones, DJI, has discovered around 1 billion yuan (~$150 million) worth of employee fraud, and that “a number” of employees have been fired as a result. This number, according to the Financial Times could be as high as 29 employees – although DJI have not confirmed this.

Photogrammetry is my hobby for the last couple of years. My first try was a small wooden Piggy from four or five years ago. That was done with a mobile phone (Nexus 4) without any knowledge of proper lighting, manual control of the camera, balancing photos, etc. The scanned result was pretty bad, but I learned a lot from it. After that, I bought a Canon EOS700D with kit lens and started to learn more about the proper way to take photos, how to correct them and how to work on the scanned geometry. Results got a lot better with the proper equipment

This is a topic that I’ve seen come up every few months in some form or another. Removing photographers from the process of image creation. And every time CG makes some incremental improvement, getting closer to the appearance of reality, I hear doom and gloom from photographers that their future is in jeopardy and “they won’t even need photographers anymore in a couple of years”.
And while that future might already be here for some product photography, it’s not quite happened for human subjects. Yet. But we may not be far off, if Imma’s Instagram account is anything to go by. Because Imma is actually not human. She’s a CG “virtual model”, who has mostly managed to claw her way out of Uncanny Valley.
